We all know curly hair can be a curse and a huge bonus all at the same time. One day it curls perfectly and the other you just end up throwing it in a bun to hide it from the world. I'm currently sitting on my couch waiting for my hair to dry and it occurred to me that I have a very specific routine on how I deal with my natural curls. So here are a few tips and tricks to avoid having crazy 80s frizzy lion hair (which is what I look like in the morning! Hah)
First things first, for this hair style you have to shower in the morning. You can't sleep on wet hair or style this at night and hope it lasts. Doesn't work. So what I usually do is use my coconut oil hair mask the night before and sleep with it in overnight. That way my hair has added moisture to help avoid frizz.
Next is to wash your hair to get all the oil out, and use a really good conditioner. One that helps with frizz, adds protein, all that good stuff. Today I used Joicco Kpack reconstructing shampoo and conditioner.
Leave your hair in the towel no longer than 10 minutes. You want it to be damp but not dripping. Take your hair out of the towel and flip your hair over a couple times (today I did it 6 times) to loosen up the roots and seperate the strands.
Don't touch you hair!!! Touching your hair will immediately add frizz and mess with the natural curl. Adjust yours bangs if need be but be very careful not to touch it too much.
I used to use products that you "scrunch" into your hair. Now this method is very effective in getting a great curl and hold, but it can sometimes add frizz from touching your hair as well as the products tend to leave my hair crunchy, which I don't like. Of all the products I've tried, and I mean I've tried them all, the unite scruncha gel is the best. It's that perfect mixture between gel and mouse and adds even more curl to my hair than I have naturally without adding crunch. If you want extra curl, try this method.
What I did today and what I prefer to do is the "no touchy" method! For this you need an anti frizz product that you can spray. This is where the "it's a 10, leave in miracle treatment plus keratin" has become my little miracle product. It's super thick, sprays on, adds moisture, shine, fights frizz and let's my hair dry naturally into a beautiful mess!
After you spray your hair generously, go sit somewhere. Don't move your hair a lot. Maybe write a blog post or something. After about 15 minutes or so, depending on your hair, you can check to see if it's starting to dry.
After it's dry you can touch it all you want. Comb it with your fingers to soften it, run a flat iron through the ringlet in the bangs (I hate that) and check for pieces that needs touch ups.
That's it! Super easy way to get that styled curled look without actually doing anything.
